New Rule 42 of the Solicitors Practice Rules came into effect on 1st April 2009, and added a further annual compulsory requirement, to operate in addition to the existing three-yearly requirement imposed by Regulation 176 under the Legal Profession Act.

For present purposes, it can safely be said that almost all solicitors will need to undertake sessions in Ethics, Practice Management, and Professional Skills every year, and a session on Harassment, Discrimination, EEO, and OH&S every three years.
And there will be ample opportunity to comply with these rules in sessions coming up in early 2012.
